Dear Lactnetters, I have seen lots of nipples in my lifetime but today I saw a mother of NICU twins who started pumping with dark almost bruised areas around both nipples at the base. The color was purple like a bruise or gentian violet spotty semicircle with darker spots that were inky. She was nursing a two year old when the pigment of aerola became darker and she immediately suspected she was pregnant which she was and just gave birth to the twins. The docs don't know and did an ultra sound.have not had results yet.The nipples look normal but rest of aerola has less pigment in some of the areas. This is hard to explain you need to see them to really get a true picture. Any ideas?
