Hello to all,

I was hoping for some information concerning weight gains for premies. I
have a mom who gave birth 1 month early via emergency C-Section as the cord was
wrapped around the baby's neck. Baby weighed 5.2 lbs at birth, 4.6 lbs at
discharge. At 4 weeks baby was 4.15 lbs. Doctor was going to start
supplementing if weight did not come up at next check. Baby was only nursing every 3
to 4 hours and sleeping through the night. I made the usual suggestions to
mom. Baby was weighed 4 days later---and was 5.3 lbs--only breastmilk. Doctor
was still not happy. Baby is now 6 weeks and mom will be going in for
another weight check. Mom is certain baby is still gaining. I was happy with
the weight gain over the 4 day period, but as this is a premie, I am not sure
what is expected or desired for weight gain. I was hoping for some information
to help this mom.

Thanks.

Regards,
Gloria Thai--who has enjoyed an unusally snowy day in Porcia, Italy.
