My 10 year old daughter looked up laughing (!) from a book and said, "Mom,
you're not going to like this..."

About a one month old baby who was given the gift of intelligence by a
fairy..."She never drooled. She never gurgled. She refused to
breastfeed. She admitted that it was good for her, but she said it was a
barbaric, cannibalistic custom. <the queen> wasn't certain what a cannibal
was, but she was embarrassed to ask a little baby, even though she knew
Sonora would be perfectly polite..."

From "Princess Sonora and the Long Sleep" by Gail Carson Levine (She won
the Newberry Award for Ella Enchanted. I've enjoyed her other books
turning fairy tales upside down and showing strong heroines.) How could
this woman write this?! Her bio says she lives with her husband in
Brewster, NY. How does one contact an author to tell her how offensive
this is?

At least my daughter realized that it was offensive. Sigh.
