I would like to hear others' opinions on this. I saw a mom today who is
totally bf her baby, now about 2 mos. old. Mom takes 60 mg. prozac daily.
I asked her whether her physician had suggested any other
antidepressants, and she said her dr. had told her that "prozac is the
most well-researched antidepressant with regard to bf " .She is going to
the dr. next week and both she and baby are going to have blood levels
checked, she said. My question is this: wouldn't it make more sense, if
mom is on such a high dose, to switch her to a different, shorter
half-life med, such as Zoloft? The amt - 60 mg - seems staggeringly high
to me. I am glad the doctors will be checking their blood levels, and I
will see her again next month to talk over what's going on. In others'
opinions, is this a good idea to continue on this dosage if she is fully
bf?
(You can e-mail me privately, as some people may be very tired of the
discussion on Prozac by now!)
