I have seen quite a few breastfed babies who had trouble with swallowing a lot of air with a bottle, although they didn't have a significant problem with it at the breast.  The shape of the bottle nipple can make a big difference, and so can the material the nipple is made of, to some extent.  In general, I think the worst are the smaller, v-shaped nipples, including the ones usually used in hospital nurseries, those that come on standard Evenflow bottles, and the pointed ones from Gerber, especially the vinyl variety.  

I don't have a lot of experience with the newer ones on the market, but my favorites were always the good old Nuk nipples.  They fill up the baby's mouth more like the breast, where a breastfed baby may not be able to form a good seal around the smaller ones, and swallow a lot of air in the process of trying.  The Playtex nursers and imitators are a gimmick, and not really helpful, in my opinion, especially if used with the flat-topped bottles that come with them.  All in all, I would suggest the mother try getting some Nuk nipples for whatever bottles she is currently using, first, rather than spending a ton of money on new bottles.
