Ann (et al)

I agree that it is interesting to hear what conferences are happening where,
who's speaking, and at least imagining how wonderful it would be to attend
all those conferences! However, given how many wonderful
breastfeeding-related conferences there are worldwide, posting this
information on Lactnet would surely bog down the list and take away from its
basic purpose of providing a forum for clinical discussions. I don't have
the info handy right here (I'm sure someone will repost it), but there
already exists a list for conference information. This makes SO much more
sense--that way, people who are actually looking for a conference to
attend--as well as those wishing they had the funds to do so(!!)--would have
a list to look through that didn't require wading through a lot of posts NOT
relevant to such a list.

Lactnet can NOT be everything to everybody. It was, way back in the early
days when there were only 9 of us--we could discuss whatever we wanted to,
including the weather, conferences, personal tales of trials and
tribulations unrelated to breastfeeding, etc. That was nice, but not nearly
as important as what Lactnet has become today with 3000+ members world-wide.
The larger the list becomes, the more important it is that we keep the focus
of the list more clearly defined. We are somewhat limited in the number of
posts we can have per day and adding conference posts would push that limit.
Far better to keep the two separate and let whoever is interested in one or
the other (or both!) read dedicated lists.

As for sources for interesting "stuff," perhaps someone could start a list
for that information.

We are all pressed for time, and want to use what time we have as
efficiently as possible. Having separate lists is much more efficient--when
you are dealing with 3000 people!
