In Norwegian we say a mother 'has a breastchild' if she is breastfeeding.
About what we call a feed: sometimes a mother will offer the child 'litt
pupp' or 'en pupp', with the u pronounced sort of like the German u with
umlaut, one of those superrounded Scandinavian vowels rampant in Sweden and
Norway; literally 'a little bit of boob' or 'a boob', though 'pupp' is more
of a term of endearment than what I associate with 'boob' in English.
'Kosepupp' is what children get when they just need to touch base with
mother and snuggle with a breast, without really guzzling a lot of milk,
often seen when a toddler takes a tumble or something else traumatic
happens.
There are some new videos on line at the Norwegian breastfeeding mothers'
organization website, under 'informasjonsfilmer' about halfway down the left
side of the page. They are meant as an aid to getting good latch and trying
different positions for breastfeeding. One of them shows a 'kosepupp' -
it's the film called 'baby står i fanget' (baby standing on lap) and I
personally enjoyed it the most of all of them. If that child had a tail it
would be wagging!

Anyway, I am getting educated through this thread, and will never
unknowingly offer an indecent proposal to a Spanish-speaking woman, thinking
I was encouraging her to feed her baby, gracias to all who have explained
the different Spanish terms from the various countries they live and work
in.
