Folks, we're over the edge here, in every direction. This is a poor use of
our collective energy.

Saying that hospital protocols need to maintain the flexibility of truly
informed "informed consent" is not equivalent to bashing physicians, any more
than worrying about support from people ordering out of the LLL catalog is
bashing leaders!

On the other hand, bashing people is just, well, bashing people. And I guess
in the last week or so we've had some of each.

Systems are always made up of lot of individuals. Most of those individuals
are usually lovely and devoted, some are well-meaning but distracted by bad
information or overwork or whatever, and a few have, shall we say,
personality work that they need to do. True in every walk of life, yes? If
we care about those systems, we keep trying, lovingly, to tweak them closer
and closer to their ideal selves. Bf support, or health care, or how I get
my kids to eat vegetables, or whatever.

Let's not bash when we mean to criticize constructively -- this requires tact
and good will. But also, lets not go looking for insults from people who
share our goals but question whether we -- or the systems we are part of --
are in a particular case on track to achieve those goals in the best way.

These are not a good-guys-bad-guys situations --- even if we weren't all the
kind of people who read Lactnet!

Finally, thank you Barbara for writing:

"When I hear about problems I just think, well, we still have a lot of work
to do. Then I try to get busy. Personally. If I am doing what I am
supposed to, I don't have any time left over to complain about what you
aren't doing right."

I have copied this passage out and posted it above my desk.
