Well, I just spoke with Mom. She clarified that the doctors basically
just said the Reglan was not enough to bring her prolactin levels up
even remotely enough to produce milk. Her level was 19 and that was the
level taken while nursing the baby at the OB's office. She continued
with the Reglan for 5 days but it did nothing for her at all. :-/ Now
baby is exhibiting signs of nipple confusion and I'm pretty sure this is
the beginning of the end. Mom asked that I pick up the breast pumps and
return them to the rental station - they have become a symbol of her
dysfunction to her and she can't stand seeing them. I gave Mom info
about the benefits of nursing with a LactAid or SNS if she thought it
might be healing for her. Not sure what she'll do with the info. On top
of it all, baby has club foot and is in a foot-to-hip cast and can't
sleep or move comfortably or be comforted in a sling. So sad for Mom and
Baby.

I did broach the subject of her pituitary and suggested that she should
follow up and perhaps push to find out WHAT is wrong, even if it is "too
late" to do anything to fix it for this baby. I'm curious to hear what,
if anything, the doctors gave her as reason for the dysfunctional
pituitary. I haven't found any info that it is related to her Hashimotos
disease but maybe there's a link?

Thanks to everyone for their words of wisdom and advice. It's so sad
when a Mom bends over backward to make things work and they just don't.
