I was glad to read your post, Carla, about your positive feelings about the
Haberman. I have been using it for just a few months, but I feel like it is
God's gift to the hospital lactation consultant who works with medicated moms
and babies every day. To be honest, I am still uncomfortable about using it
with a mom who has flat nipples, knowing that this could be just as bad as
using anything else if used inappropriately. But I teach mom and dad that
once the baby is starting to get the hang of a good suck on the Haberman, rub
the nipple on the end of his tongue making him bring his tongue out more and
really causing him to suck the nipple in. I believe this causes him to
realize that mom's flat nipple is not expected to poke out at him when he is
ready to eat. I used this method on just one kiddo whose mommy had flat
nipples, and it worked.

- hospital LC whose position has just been cut to 20 hours/wk (grant-funded
with no money from the hospital) making it impossible for me to remain in
Wisconsin. I have obviously taught the nurses everything I know because the
manager feels they will be just fine on their own now. So it's back to
square one in Michigan starting up my private practice all over again. Oh
well, life goes on . . .
