I read this with interest, and a renewd understanding of what we are
up against when supporting breastfeeding mothers.

On a happier note, I am taking an online class in Developmental
Psychology and the professor must be very 'pro' normal! One
assignment was pages of research on the reasons to breastfeed followed
by the front cover of the Baby Talk mag with the breast and babe
photo. The assignment was to explain why you may or may not find
something completely 'good' and 'normal' as offensive and defend your
position using science. Next week he provided information on normal
birth, the choices of birth and the impact on the baby and the
mother...and then asked students to use research to determine the
safest place for a women to deliver her baby and under what
circumstances. I thought I went to happy dream land! There are about
40 or so taking this particular online course, so at least 40 were
exposed to the thought that birth and breastfeeding could be should be
normal.

Gave me hope, but only a tiny glimmer....
