Yikes!

I'm with you, Mary - this doctor seems to have veered so far from what
we are used to that he has landed in the other ditch. Surprising, and
worth pursuing. If your ward has a procedure book maybe you should
take some backside-covering steps. This doctor sounds a bit renegade
at best and possibly unsafe at worst. Admirable that he seems to
support breastfeeding and trust the mother to get it accomplished, but
concerning that he was so dismissive of you and of your well-founded
concern for the establishment of BF in this particular case. It would
be interesting to know where his approach was shaped. He may turn out
to be a valuable supporter within your system if he is able to see the
value of allying himself with others on the team who want BF to be the
norm.

Everything you recommended is completely in line with the responses
sent to your first post on this case, from at least three of us on
three continents. You have solid support in your professional
community and it was given without us knowing any of the background
for your question. I don't see how you could have recommended
anything else without crossing the boundary between safe practice and
negligence.

Kristiansand, Norway where it's only 10:30 a.m. and if I were not a
listmother, I wouldn't be able to post again until tomorrow :p - let's
hear it for abuse of privilege!!
