I couldn't agree more with Barbara Wilson Clay regarding test weights. I
have had many situations where learning that the baby is not
transferring much at breastfeeds helps to mobilize an appropriate plan
to get the baby to full breastfeeding. I have seen babies who really
look like they are latched and swallowing and transfer only .1oz. Some
babies don't look like they are doing much and have taken 2 oz. easily.
I like to give the mother as much information as possible to come up
with a plan. Something that I have found helpful. Once a mother and baby
are fully breastfeeding after having had problems, I ask if I can have
other mothers call them for support.
