Hi all, I haven't posted in a while partly because of my son's illness. My
3rd (who just turned 9 yesterday) has been dx w/Ulcerative Colitis and is on
an insane amount of meds to get it under control (he has pan colitis & spent
3 days in the hospital getting rehydrated). As he gets healthier we are
going to have him allergy tested since the ped gi thinks with his history of
food allergies it may have made his condition worse (I couldn't have any
milk proteins while he was breastfed). He nursed for 3 yrs (1 yr w/his
little brother) and it has been almost 4 yrs since I have lactated. I am
toying with the idea of relactating to give him a source of breast milk to
get him into remission and hopefully getting him off some of the meds (2 are
immunosuppresents). So I have 2 questions and would love everyone's
opinions & ideas.

1) what amount of breast milk production/day should I try for? I have seen
in the archives up to 8 oz for adults - should I try for 8 oz per day or
would less work on someone so young.

2) what would be the best pump to use - I have access to both medela & ameda
rental pumps and am wondering classic, elite, symphony?

Also I am wondering with life being so hectic (we are dealing with a house
needing work to be sold an hour drive north - and our son's doctor appts &
blood draws 1 hr drive south) if it would make a difference in his recovery
if I don't get production up to where it should be?

Thanks for any suggestions and letting me post a personal question to the
list - hopefully when life gets close to normal I can start seeing moms and
babies again. I miss working with them.
