Norma Ritter wrote to us regarding her article: ..originally called "A
national scandal." It is about contaminants found in infant formula,
including melamine:

Hi Norma - I loved your article; so much of its contents need to be common
knowledge. The comments were also interesting. Do you think most of the
adults in the US are aware of how many children died or were made seriously
ill by the melamine-contaminated Artificial Baby Milk (ABM) in China? The
last numbers I heard were: 6 babies died and thousands developed medical
problems such as kidney disease/failure, etc. As far as I know, there are
no reports of melamine-contaminated ABM causing mortality/morbidity in any
other countries, including the USA.

The WHO list of placing ABM as the fourth choice for infant feeding is
something to be publicized, too; THANKS for doing that. Please indulge me
if I take the liberty to expand that to ABM as the sixth choice -- #2 and #4
in my revised list are my additions. IMO, the feeding choices for the
infant are:  1) milk directly from its own mother's breast (breastfeeding);
2) its mother's own expressed milk fed by another method; 3) milk directly
from another woman's breast (wet-nursing); 4) another woman's expressed milk
fed by another method; 5) milk acquired from a milk bank; and 6) Artificial
Baby Milk.

I sincerely hope that you find another "home" for your articles. Keep up
the good work! Warm regards, Lee.
