A generally happy baby, 6 weeks, whose mom tends to strong, spraying
let-down. When she lets down the baby not only lets go, which would be
messy but otherwise just fine :), but seems to choke and panic. Her eyes go
wide, she struggles for breath in a way that almost reminds me of an apnea,
then takes 2-4 gasping breaths with look of terror on her little face, then
as she catches her breath screams and cries bitterly for a moment or two.
Her mother takes her off and tries to soothe her as soon as she seems to
start this choking but it doesn't seem to help at all until after she has
caught her breath and cried; then she is breathing again normally and it is
just a matter of soothing her in an ordinary way.

This child has no other signs of oversupply trouble that sometimes go with
strong MER, and mother has not observed any other signs of respiratory
trouble -- no other gasping, stridor, sleep apnea (mom says babe in bed maybe
1/2 the time?) etc. Extremities all pinked up nicely in her first week or
two.

Her principal question is only, does she need to worry about this child's
respiration? Or of course any other ideas that light up over the LN heads...

Thanks. Elisheva
