Simply having mom place baby's head on the center of her lower arm,
rather than on the crook of the arm so that the hand is on baby's bottom
helps get a more asymmetric latch. I have moms slide their arm across
their bodies until they can press baby's tummy on their ribcage under
the breast they are not feeding from, and this usually lines up the
baby's philtrum (the ridge between lip and nose) with the nipple. I
have her bring him closer, so the chin touches the breast and the
philtrum is brushed by the nipple, and when he opens wide, she brings
her arm closer to her body, starting with her hand (this prevents her
from inadvertantly centering the nipple in the mouth, or flexing the
baby's head.

I hope this is understandable, I'm better at photographing these things
than explaining them in words!
