Dear Friends,
There is a doctor nearby who believes that babies don't necessarily stool
regularly from day one. I have worked with several women - 2 in the last 2
weeks - who contacted him with concerns about their newborns not stooling.
His answer is, some do and some don't. He is very laid back about weight
gain as well. I saw both of these babies at 3 weeks old and both were below
birthweight, one was severely tongue tied and the other's mother had several
signs of insufficient glandular development. Both babies started stooling
the same day that we met. I have contacted the doctor before, pointing out
normal stooling and weight gain pattern but with no results. I would like
to send him some research. Does anyone know of some good precise research on
how often a baby should stool and how much weight they should gain?
Thank you so much,
Chayn Fogelman in Israel, IBCLC
