I really must take issue with the post reminding us that the
exagersted price some hospitals are charging for pump kits entail other
costs and is possibly paying our salaries.
This is NOT standard nor ethical practice. Suppose you took your
car to be fixed at a garage and were charged $400 for a headlight. Upon
questioning the charge, you are told that this price includes other nominal
services. I would want to see a detailed list! Rather any reputable
establishment lists price of parts, supplies, and amount of labor at so much
per hour.
Hospital stays should be handled no differently. There should be no
hidden costs tacked on to items of a specific name. LC costs should be
included in the general hospital stay, a nursery charge, or listed under its
own subcatagory.
Still steamed for being charged a "nursery charge" two years ago
when I delivered Alexandria--who never left my room, never was given
formula, and never used a hospital diaper :(
