Joyce told us of her experience with a mother, stating that she was giving
her baby "the breast milk based formula." The marketing of these formulas has
escalated to a fever pitch. One of the things we can do to help protect
babies is to report to the Federal Trade Commission each time a mother
purchases or uses the formula because she thinks it's like breast milk. False
and misleading advertising is illegal. These reports can be called into
202.382.4357 or made online at www.ftc.gov. You may wish to check for the
correct phone number on the web site as I notice that these can change
periodically.

The more reports they get the more likely it becomes that they will look into
this problem. When I filed my complaint they also told me to file a complaint
with the Better Business Bureau of the state in which the company is
headquartered. Ross Labs is in Ohio and the BBB number is 800.759.2400. Mead
Johnson is in Indiana and the BBB number is 812 473-0202. Please take the
time to file these reports. It is vital that a trail be established so that
these marketing practices can be challenged and stopped.

As always, please send NABA (the National Alliance for Breastfeeding
Advocacy) any of the materials that are showing up in your agencies, offices,
or hospitals. NABA will reimburse for postage. Send these materials to me at
