Hi Donna,

The insulin pump which i am familiar with, is used instead of having to give
oneself shots. It has a port and either has a basal rate of insulin and when
mom eats meal she pushes a button and gives herself a pre determined dose
of insulin depending on her blood sugar. Yes, may cause delay in lactogenesis
11. Don't give up and give her hope, shouldn't be any different really than a
mom using insulin thru pregnancy. was this Pregnancy induced or prior insulin
dependency.
In any case the mom should be monitored carefully be her OB/endocronogist
on how to watch for signs of decreasing need for as much insulin once bb
born. Also, baby will be on glucose protocol for first few hours of life.
Encourage lots of skin to skin, breastfeed on request and maybe get her
pumping to help increase the chance of a good supply. Chances are they will
put the baby in nsy to watch for complications...

best wishes,
robin
