Natascha,
Oh, I feel for this baby. I distinctly remember when both of my younger
sisters and a neighbor child had this in the early eighties. If I
understand correctly, it started as an extension of strep in the
neighbor child, and being highly contagious spred through the
neighborhood by the children sharing cups.

I do remember both of my sisters then aged 14 and 10, describing it as
excruciating pain. Lots of weeping, and very little food. My sisiter
who was 14 was unable to tolerate anything but water and diluted
pedialyte. And , of course, popsicles. I think our local AAFES Comissary
had a hard time keeping any popsicles in the store that summer!

How old is the baby? maybe some expressed milk popsicles would be good.
Numb the pain and as they melt, the baby may even get enough of the good
stuff to hold out through the worst part of the "outbreak"

This baby and his/her family will be my thoughts. Please keep us posted!
