There is absolutely no reason to wean with rotavirus gastroenteritis or any
other gastroentiris -- the reverse is true: BM mucin inhibits rotavirus (see
ref below). The AAP came out with wonderful guidelines re gastroenteritis -
basically feed THROUGH it and babies (and children ) will do BETTER. Refs
follow:

AAP. Practice Parameter: Management of Acute Gastroenteritis in Young
Children. Pediatrics 1996; 97(3): 424-435

Huffman SL, Combest C. Role of breastfeeding in the prevention and treatment
of diarrhea. Diar Dis Res 1990; 8: 68-81

Popkin BM, et al. Breastfeeding and Diarrhea morbidity. Pediatrics 1990; 86:
874-882

McFarlane PI, Miller V. Human milk in the management of protracted diarrhea of
infancy. Arch Dis Child 1984; 59: 260-265

Yolken RH, et al. Human milk mucin inhibits rotavirus replication and prevents
experimental gastroenteritis. J Clin Invest 1992; 90: 1984-1991

Good Luck,
