Hi all.

I have been a lurker for a while, but felt a need to comment on the logs.
When I was discharged at 24 hours after the birth of my daughter (5 years
ago) the breastfeeding advice I was given from the LC were to "nurse often
and look for 5 - 6 very wet diapers a day.) I was also given a
prescription of Tylenol 3 (acetaminophen with codeine), 30 pills to be
taken every 4 hours for afterpains. As you can imagine, I was in no
condition to even remember feeding the baby, who I thought was dehydrated
because I was not getting even 1 soaking diaper let alone 5 or 6! Keeping
a log helped tremendously. I was able to assure myself that baby was
nursing "often" and that I was not taking too many pills. Thankfully my MD
sister visited on day 3, advised me to stop the meds and start watching
cues (she was specific) from baby. With so many moms having medicated
births and little support at home, a log is one way of feeling in control
during that first confusing week. It would be even better if some guidance
as to what specific cues to watch for from baby to indicate hunger and also
cues for problems (sleeping for long stetches, lethargic etc.) went along
with the log. :)
