i'd recommend start with a small inventory and when your clients ask you
enough times, "do you carry xyx?", then you'll go ahead and start carrying
it! pump rentals ( i had a small rental station for years and have done
rentals as hosp LC ) can get very involved, as far as renting, cleaning,
tracking them etc. if i had to do it myself, i think i would refer out for
pump rentals if a reliable source had them, and i would carry only retail
items such as the mini electric or pump in style (these are medela products
which i am most familiar with). maybe also storage bags, nipple shields
(sometimes you need one), and i like to use #5 fdg tubes threaded thru a
bottle for when supplementing at breast is needed. i do not like sns. so you
could carry some of these which i beleive can be ordered by the box and sold
very cheaply. i think books are great and slings. lots of mothers buy and
ask about the 'boppy' pillow which is shaped like a half moon and goes
around the mom, but I myself do not like these. I like to use regular
pillows or throw pillows for support, as I get more flexibility etc. lots of
moms ask for lanolin too. good luck, i wish you much success.
