Kathleen Bruce asked:
What is the name of the syndrome where the mother starves the baby, and then
calls the doctor a zillion billion times for help, but conceals the fact
that she is starving the baby? This is a very real psychological phenonemon,
and I have lost my note about this syndrome. Was thinking it might have
something to do with Anne Robb's client's baby?
Would you be thinking of Munchousin's By Proxy (sp)? I believe this is
when a person does something (usually mother to a child) that requires
significant medical work-up and treatment. Some examples of famous cases
were seen when a mother fed baby high amounts of sodium in the formula,
causing seizures, and another case where the baby was being tested for
repeated apnea, and the mother was filmed by a hidden camera holding a
pillow to the baby's face. So sad...
Munchousins Syndrome (not by proxy) is when the patient causes harm to
himself, requiring frequent surgeries, treatments, tests...
Hope this helps!
