It takes about two seconds to look up well referenced documents that refute the idea that breastfeeding beyond 3 months confers no benefits and that there is no consensus on breastfeeding.  One is a national consensus document, the other is international.

Lo and behold the American Academy of Pediatrics and the World Health Organization did not make up their rules out of thin air.  They actually referenced LOTS of research studies (far more than Joan Wolf or Hannah Rosin would ever think to read).  

Going back to basics and rereading these documents gives you a long list of health risks of formula feeding.

I'm in a bad mood -- makes me want to ask what this mother read -- some sort of mothering magazine?  Or the school of google?  Forgive me, its been a hard week with all the unexpected amount of snow all the postpartum moms in NYC seem to be going a little stir crazy.
