Dear Wise Ones,

I am a new IBCLC, yet old labour and delivery nurse who has
started a new business. It is a business that is teaching Childbirth
classes, and offering Lactation services. I am located in Northern
Alberta, Canada and the only active IBCLC in the area. Although I have
been registered only a month, I already find myself with an ethical
dilemma. I have a partner who is an RN who feels that I am not being
fair with a position I have taken with regards to a fetal magazine that
she wants to give out in class. It is called " As your Baby grows" and
is put out by BABYSTEPS aka ENFALAC. It is very good for photos of the
various stages of fetal development but advertises formula packs...etc.
I have taken my stand against it, yet with this being a
partnership she feels I am being a fanatic and not considering her
opinion. She suggested that I announce a disclaimer to the ads and tell
them to just look at the photos or she could just hand them out since
she is not an IBCLC. But I think we all know how silly that is, after
all it is pretty enticing to think that you can recieve a nice gift for
free.
What I am looking for is any other alternative that someone
might have for a handout/magazine for fetal development or some advice
on handling this partner. If this is not appropriate to post to the list
please email me privately.
Thank you in advance for this and the last year of incredible
learning.
