Ok, I finally have to write. this is why some psychology background is important to being a IBCLC. Remember Harlow's monkeys everyone? the orphan monkeys were put in a cage with a soft stuffed animal suspended in the cage, and a hard wire contraption holding a bottle of milk on the other side of the cage. Guess where the terrified baby monkey hung out? THE SOFT STUFFED ANIMAL! They scampered to the bottle occasionally for a quick drink, then clung to the soft stuffed thing the rest of the time. I tell parents that all the time. Most of them have already heard of the experiment, so all I have to do is mention Harlow's monkeys and they suddenly get it.

Renee
