We who participate in Lactnet need to remember that this service is
available to us free of charge. We are guests, not the owners! As such
it is the perogative of the owners to set whatever limits they feel
appropriate and do not need to "take a vote" or get the approval of the
rest of us who take advantage of this opportunity. If they wanted to,
they could put any limitation on. Say (for an extreme example) they
decided we should only talk about breastfeeding boy babies, not girl
babies. It is their right and even though the rest of us would
certainly disagree with such a limit, we have no ultimate say in it.
Whatever the owners determine is appropriate, we agree to follow when we
sign up.
Some subjects that have come up off topic are ones I would love to hear
more about and some I'm glad they have asked us to limit. I feel this
is a valuable resource, even if there are some aspects that might be
deemed off topic. I hope we will all respect the guidelines and share
the wealth of knowledge, wisdom and experience we share within those
guidelines rather than feeling hurt and angry about those areas we may
be asked to steer clear of.
Thanks again to the owners and the listmoms for providing and overseeing
this very valuable resource.
Winnie Mading RNC, IBCLC - who has very strong opinions of a number of
subjects, not just breastfeeding
