I didn't see anyone demonising Medela. I saw genuine interest in
understanding what the issues are, and why they are important.

And why they are important is... areas that have advertising that breaks
Code, tend to have lower rates of breastfeeding.

So whilst it may be small change to notice that in some areas Medela are
doing okay, and in others they are not (which proves they can market
products without breaking Code), the issue is that in the areas where
they break Code, they are working against breastfeeding being
established as the norm.

For every Mum in need of a bottle for her pumping, there are legions
behind her in the market place, just seeing The Bottle being upheld.
Further, the much more vulnerable and fragile babies in resource poor
countries... their mothers see The Bottle being in the white, rich
West... and aspire to it.

It's all connected, in our global village, and we have to extend the
protection of the Code to everyone, everywhere, no matter how small it
seems in context.

Anyone producing any breastfeeding related paraphenalia, anywhere, has
to uphold breastfeeding first and foremonst: end of.

And I also didn't see the community being dividing... I saw it working
round a subject and slowly being united against Code breaking.

Perhaps we need to switch language... and not ask if anyone is breaking
Code... but ask if anyone is upholding breastfeeding first and
foremost. :-)

But I do not think the pump companies are treated fair here in the last weeks. I really think our efforts, time and energy are better spent at the battle to real Code crackers, or even better in counseling breastfeeding or even breastmilkfeeding moms.
