Kathleen,
        Your letter to Dr. Sears brought tears to my eyes. After 20 years of
promoting breastfeeding benefits to the patients I see as a  nursery
nurse, a decade of nursing my own four babies and the same decade of
involvement with
LLLI and teaching the hospital breastfeeding class, I was shocked and
hurt that this wonderful man, whose praises I've sung, could do such a
thing.I really couldn't accept the truth of it at first. How could it be?
        I finally took the plunge and became IBCLC this past year. So far I am
waiting for a position to be approved at "my" hospital and in the
meantime have been watching the numbers of bottlefeeding moms increase.
Some of my fellow nurses have remarked with concern about this as well.
Perhaps I need to return to teaching the prenatal breastfeeding class
myself ;-) My SIL overheard a group of young mothers discussing
breastfeeding as "out-dated" and how "nobody" does that now.....I am so
concerned . Then on the other hand ,I have that dear new daddy wanting
breast-milk for his little girl even as her mama fights for her life....I
know there is hope and the truth will win out.
        Thankyou for writing such a strong and eloquent letter to Dr.Sears and
expressing my thoughts and feelings as well.
