There used to be, as part of the Lactation Consultant Series modules published by LLLl, a pamphlet called, IIRC, Helping the Mother Whose Baby Has Died. I don't think there was anything about donating the milk of the bereaved mother to a milk bank, but this module came out in the 80s when most US milk banks had closed. It was excellent though. I used to have a copy which I gave to a midwife at my OB's office. I don't think I replaced it although I had intended to.

I think that groups dealing with infant death better serve, in general, these families. I remember going to a meeting of Compassionate Friends. There was one young couple who baby was stillborn. There was another mother there who had lost a young adult son to Muscular dystrophy. I could tell that this woman was somewhat dismissive of the grief this young couple felt. I never went back. Among their peers of other parents who have also lost babies, they are less likely to have their feelings dismissed.

I did not donate my milk as that was not really a possibility in 1988. I did hand express some to relieve any engorgement which peaked on the day of my daughter's funeral. I thought of it as my body grieving for my baby.

Warmly,
