The design of a baby bottle with a tube extending down into the bottle at
one end and the other end extending out beyond the opening of the bottle
and capped off with a teat is an old design.

It was a typical bottle design from the mid-1800's until the US government
outlawed them in the early 1900's. It was nicknamed "murder bottle"
because approximately 7 out of 8 babies fed with them died.

The earlier models were made from glass and rubber rather than plastic and
silicone as is the modern one.

It is thought that the mortality rate with the use of the earlier style
was from lack of cleaning. We all know the content of the bottle was just
as likely the culprit! However, I am not convinced that mothers today
will take the time and care to clean the tubing appropriately.

I do not think that it was legal to sell the tube style bottle after 1915-
1920. I wonder why it is okay today.

Just noticing that what is new to us may not be new at all.
