A few days ago Kathy asked for a recipe for homemade formula.  I don't know
what people would answer nowadays, but here is the recipe given in the 1960
edition of Zabriskie's Obstetrics for Nurses, J. B. Lippincott Co., p. 342.

"The following is an example of a formula that is often used to make the
quantity necessary for a full day's supply, i.e., six 3-ounce feedings:

        12 ounces water (2 parts)
         6 ounces evaporated milk (1 part)
         2 tablespoons corn sirup [sic])"

Many pages of instruction follow on how to mix and sterilize this
concoction.  Canned evaporated milk was recommended, as it was supposed to
be clean.
