I had a professor in nutrition who told me a story about a village in
Austria where the prevailing custom was to send the kindergartners home to
breastfeed during the day...my prof said the 5 and under mortality rate for
that village was much lower than comparable villages without that
custom...he said he had the good fortune to meet one of those
kindergarteners, then an old man, at one point.

My professor was Dr. Arthur Mahoney, who died a couple years ago. He was a
strong supporter of breastfeeding and of his students in general. I miss
him still.
