<< Annie, are you saying that some of the breastfeeding advice in the book is
not repeated in the video/DVD? If this is true, I would like to see it. As I
mentioned, I thought some of the non-feeding-related advice in the book was
great. >>

Yes, I am saying that. The video is only 38 minutes. It shows Dr. Karp
calming fussy babies in group settings with lots of parents and in the
privacy of the family's home. I think he does advocate holding/nuturing. I
think if you pinned him down, he'd be very pro-breastfeeding. (email him and
ask him). I think if you look at what is available in video or book to
mainstream America, this book and the book by Elizabeth Pantley (The No Cry
Sleep Solution) do a good job of filling a big gap between Ezzo and La Leche
League. (Save the emails, this isn't a negative LLI comment, just a
measuring point.) There is some middle ground that needs to be covered and I
think these 2 authors do it. I would STILL rather have any mom view this
video and read these books than the hard core, cry it out, detach parenting
books out there.

<<I think there's a difference between acknowledging, as Dr. Karp did in other
places, that mothers do need breaks, and recommending up to eight hours a
day in the swing or recommending against holding baby or nursing a lot.>>

In the video he says some babies will swing/move up to 8 hours. Whether it
is in your arms, a sling or a swing, he is trying to provide comfort for
babies. There are so many good points in his book, please don't write it off.

I don't know the socioeconomic climate you work in. Please post a list of
books you do recommend and that work for your clients, I'd love to see what
you use. Where I live and work, this book and Pantley's book have been
heaven sent. I deal with a lot of moms who are chomping at the bit to get
back to work, the gym, the salon, the mall, whatever. They will not wear
their babies for 8 - 24 hours. What am I supposed to do? Not help them?
Or, try to make it better?
