A mom on Breastfeeding .com called Enfamil and asked them to email her the
"recipe" that made up DHA and ARA. Here it is!

Dear Ms. :
Thank you for contacting Mead Johnson through the Internet. It is a pleasure
to hear from our customers and we hope you will contact us whenever you need
assistance. As always, we recommend discussing your concerns with your
child's doctor, however, the answer(s) to your question(s) are listed below:

LIPIL:
The sources of DHA and ARA in Enfamil LIPIL are Crypthecodinium cohnii oil
(DHA) and Mortierella alpina oil (ARA) from Martek Biosciences Corporation.
These oils are produced by single-cell organisms through
controlled fermentation, then extracted and purified in a manner similar to
that of vegetable oils. The oil that provides the DHA is made by microalgae
(Crypthecodinium cohnii); the oil that provides the ARA is
made by fungi (Mortierella alpina). These organisms are commonly consumed by
fish and animals. They are not genetically modified; they are safe and
non-toxic.

These oils have undergone extensive safety testing and have been designated
as generally recognized as safe (GRAS) for use in term infant formula by the
United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Numerous clinical trials have been conducted using these oils in infant
formula. No negative effects have been observed on growth, and no increased
incidence of serious adverse events associated with the oils have been
reported. The oils have been used as a source of fatty acids in infant
formulas in more than 60 countries and have been consumed by more than a
half million infants without adverse effects. Many expert groups around the
world, including panels sponsored by the Food and
Agriculture Organization/World Health Organization and by the Child Health
Foundation, have recommended that DHA and ARA be included in infant
formulas.

If you have further questions regarding the information provided above
please feel free to contact us via the Internet again or call us toll-free
at 1-800-222-9123 and ask to speak with one of our Product Information
Associates. When you call please explain that you
originally contacted Mead Johnson via e-mail and you are calling to speak
with a Product Information Associate. Please reference the file number
listed at the end of this letter when your call is transferred to Product
Information. This will enable us to access your file quickly and handle your
concerns in a timely manner.

It is important to note that each baby's tolerance of a particular product
must be individually evaluated. Therefore, we urge you to contact your
physician who we feel is in the best position to advise you on the specific
care and feeding of your infant.

Your response and/or call will help us to continue our tradition of
providing the highest quality products and the best service possible.
Maintaining quality and satisfying our customers are very important to us.
Please let us know anytime you have questions, comments, or
suggestions concerning our products.
