I wish WIC here would do more promotion for bf- the initiation rate here is
maybe 30 % but lasting 6 weeks the average weaning age is about 2-4 weeks. I
used to ovlunteer at this office they told me except for the extra food no
incentives can be given to feed longer. What is promotion money for - gifts
for this and that. They do not see a need for aN IBCLC as the people BF
coordinateor attened the 3 day state course. Thsi is fine ad good al for
educationa nd the teacher here is a good friend of mane ans she states that
it is no sub for an IBCLC. but they keep calling themselves lactation
consultants anyway, but ate so dorrogatory of LLL or outside help. BTW that
average length of staty here for a the nutritionest s is 6-8 months they get
training here and go to another county that pays more. Yes i too was a WIC
client for years even with graduate degree. I do have a doc or two here
that will refer to me in a reallybad situation. and got a nice note back.
