This suspicion of human milk really drives me nuts. The underlying
assumption is that human milk is 'dirty' ggrrrr. Rotavirues are transmitted
via fecal/oral route. There is no evidence of transmission via milk (unless
someone has put their hands in it - hands they didn't wash after going to
the toilet!). There is a great deal of evidence that exclusive breastfeeding
for 6months, followe by continued breastfeeding in the presence of
nutritionally adequate complimentary foods PROTECTS against rotavirus
(google rotavirus and breastfeeding). You might also like to have a look at
Jane Mortenson's (A Preemie Needs His Mum) work on the protection offered by
the entero-mammary pathway.
