My hunch is that whatever is causing the woman to need lots of
antibiotics may be the same thing that is causing or contributing to
the CA.
Dear Friends:
Please, let's remember that this is only one study. The sample size of
10,000 is good, but still the findings would have to be replicated more than
once to qualify as valid.
However, this might reinforce the need to culture things before
prescribing antibiotics, and seeing clients in person for assessment before
prescribing, and looking at other factors before prescribing antibiotics. I am thinking
of the way ear infections in children are treated in Holland: most commonly
with rest, and comfort measures and time. It works.
Half of mastitis is non-infectious, and can be resolved with that magic
mantra: heat, rest, and empty breast. Homeopathy is also helpful, as is
'stripping the breast'. All this can be done for 24 hours before going to
antibiotics, unless it is some obviously virulent germ, such as strep which shows up in
both breasts with a very sick mother.
How many of us have seen folks take antibiotics and keep working?
Whatever happened to resting and eating wonderful comfort foods and taking time for
the body to heal? If a mother who is sick with mastitis can go to bed and nurse
the baby sufficiently, she has a good chance to get better without any
prescription; it's worth a 24-hour trial.
    warmly,
    warmly,
