I<<<<The mother tells me that he has a cleft at the back of the
palate, webbed neck, one arm ends at the elbow, the other hand has a thumb
and two fingers, and he has club feet. The paediatrician suspects some kind
of inherited syndrome and is looking up his books, expected that the baby
might not survive the first 24 hours, but I think that he will.>>>>>

Hi Pamela,
I just saw a baby like this today, she is 2 years old. She also had multiple
anomolies. She had club feet, bones missing in her legs, 4 fingers on one
hand, no thumb, and a hole in her heart. I first saw her in February when she
had a bilateral amputation of both legs above the knee. I just saw her today
2 days post repair of the hole in her heart. Let me tell you this kid is
amazing. She learned to walk on leg prosthesis, the doctors were amazed that
she was able to do this so quickly. They also moved one of her fingers into a
thumb, it works fine and she is able to grasp things well. She wasn't feeling
to well today being post op, but she is a super sweet child, with a wondeful
life ahead of her. I certainly hope the doctors give your little one a chance.
Keep me informed of her progress.
Warmly,
Roni Chastain, RN, LCCE, FACCE
