Hi Pam,
Well nearly all of them did not start out intending to breastfeed long-term
but as time went past and they learnt more about breastfeeding, they were
exposed to long-term breastfeeding role models and as their child kept
wanting to breastfeed they changed their minds. There were some women in my
study who said that they kept breastfeeding because of an interest in
natural things or a natural philosophy but they were only a small %. Paper
will be published in March Breastfeeding Review.

Subject: Nursing Confusion

Karleen: A large % of US women continue to nurse past infancy because they
suscribe to a "natural philosophy". Just curious - Why do Aussie women
nurse
past infancy?
