This was a consult from the OB/GYN who was seeing her in the ER so she was/is being followed by her doctor. An ultrasound was done results were no abcess but full of milk. Although my question is -how can you really tell that it is not an abcess in there between all that milk? Her antibiotics were changed again to something stronger which would treat for staph (MRSA). The breast is so painful that any touching makes the mother tense. I suggested that she take Motrin every 6-8, antibiotic. As far as milk removal should the immediate plan of care be to just wait it out until the tenderness and swelling decreases where it is more comfortable to be touched and just have infant nurse from unaffected breast?
