I have been providing the information and videos from Dr. Jane Morton - and our nursing directors seem to be listening...especially when I'm able to provide links to studies...

I just wrote this note for a friend whose sister is experiencing the imminent birth of preemie twins...

"We usually recommend starting HAND EXPRESSION during the first 6 hours – putting the colostrum in small (needle-less) syringes that can be taken to the babies or frozen to wait until they can tolerate oral intake – or it is used for oral cleansing – which introduces her antibodies to the babies.

"After that, she should be pumping every 2 hours in the daytime and 3 hours at night – with hand expression AFTER each pumping.
Here’s a study on the subject: http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/706375

"Here’s a website to a video with additional information:
http://newborns.stanford.edu/Breastfeeding/HandExpression.html

"I also have a set of videos you can borrow for parents of preemies by Dr. Morton. (A Preemie needs his mother")
