I obviously wrote more directly than appreciated, I apologise if I have
upset people (on my first post too). Maybe a personal issue also came
into it a bit - LCs are not really recognised as being part of a
professional body in NZ. Qualified yes, with an International
certificate, but we struggle to get recognition/support from the College
of Midwives who provide 75% of the care here. We show professionalism in
our practices using an evidence-based approach which demonstrates the
research and clinical skills gained in our education, I try not to use
anecdotal information. (I was also remembering from my breastfeeding
days - that if someone had told me to make a batch of cookies I would
have probably reacted quite violently towards the person suggesting
that!! I was utterly exhausted with a colicky 36 weeker, craving every
scrap of sleep that could be had between feeds.... )

We are blessed in NZ that Domperidone is available, and government
subsidised too - a 6 week supply is $3. We see enormous benefit for many
of women with low lactation with it's use. I hope Jack Newman's current
research will make it easier for women in the USA to obtain it.
