Liz, I just have a funny anecdote for your situation.

When my second daughter was born (in 1988) our oldest was only 26 months
old. One of S's grandmothers bought her a baby doll, with the expected bottle,
when the Baby B was about a month old. S had only seen B nurse, we were
heavily involved in LLL, and I did not have a bottle in the house.

My dh and I opened the package with the doll. Sarah, (the two year old) took
the babydoll out of the box, lifted her shirt and nursed her. A few minutes
later, as toddlers do, she was examining the contents of the box, she wrapped
the baby in the blanket, then, completely undressed the doll and
then.......picked up the bottle.

I wondered what she might do. She aimed the bottle at the doll's face, and
then calmly, placed the "nipple" of the plastic bottle into the doll's
nostril!!!! "Hew, bebe, now you can breeve." (Here baby, now you can
breathe.) She thought it was a nose syringe! (She had seen us use one with
her "slightly juicy" sister, Becca, a C Birth baby.)

My husband and I got a good laugh out of that. Rather than have to take the
bottle away (which I was afraid might stifle curiosity and creative play) Sarah
herself found a breastfeeding friendly use for it.

Maybe you could present the bottles as nose syringes to your little one. :)
