input would be greatly appreciated regarding the following situation:

mom's second baby, 6 months old, breastfeeding fine, history of oversupply,
but no serious problems - gaining stupendously. introduced solids at 4
months because baby seemed eager for them, but only gave tiny amounts (less
than a tsp.) 1-2 per week. first time went fine, but subsequent attempts
resulted in baby vomiting copiously 3-5 hours after consumption. no
vomiting on breastmilk alone. here is the history in mom's own words:

"I gave him banana once, and he was fine. Then I tried again, only the
banana wasn't as ripe as the first time, and that's the first time it
happened. Poor guy, it was horrible for him. Then I switched to
peaches. No problems at all there. Then I tried some rice cereal. Again,
he took it fine once, but the second time, he threw everything up
again. So I took another two week break and then I tried pears. He threw
those up about 5 hours after the first time he tried them. Then this last
experience with the rice cereal." (he vomited the last time too)

would a baby who just isn't ready for solids be demanding them so
vigorously? would a baby vomit so severely and consistently from such tiny
and infrequent amounts, simply because he isn't ready? should mom be
concerned with allergy or sensitivity (none to her diet)? i suggested
freezing breastmilk and letting baby "eat" it like a slushy off the spoon,
or letting him gnaw on a rice cake or teething biscuit, instead of spoon
feeding. i also suggested stripping him down and only letting him eat what
he intentionally shoves in his mouth, but she has been giving him so
little, it rather soudns like he'd still get that much at least.

i tend to think late eaters are late because they know best about what
their system can handle. can the same be said for early eaters? or do
babies sometimes not know what's best for themselves in this regard? any
input helpful. i know its not exactly a breastfeeding question, but since
solid foods are so integrally intertwined with breastfeeding and weaning,
it seems on-topic - i hope so at least.

thanks,

Lyla
