Just to share, another mom here who was denied the opportunity to pursue
LLLL because I had worked full time. Otherwise held/wore/carried babies
constantly when we were home, co-slept, exclusively breastfed, never used
formula, but could not be considered. I feel my parenting philosophy was
very much in line with LLL, and even though I had to return to work at 6
weeks with my second, I worked 2 days/week from home for 6 weeks, then moved
to 2 days from home and 2 days in the office until she was 6 months old,
then resumed 4 day/week schedule. I feel silly that I'm sitting here
outlining my schedule as if to verify that I'm a "good enough" mother! My
passion for helping other working moms with breastfeeding has been the
driving force in my career for 5 years, and I had really hoped to start
another evening meeting in our area, but instead launched my website and
host an informal "working moms gathering" at a coffee shop once a month -
it's our own little LLL meeting, I guess. But the rejection still stings!
For the record, I had a leader very willing to support my application, but
she found out from regional higher-ups that my application would not be
considered before I'd even started the process. Well, let's keep on moving
forward! I did write an article for Leaven recently on helping working moms
through LLL, so I do still stay connected to the LLL and LLLL communities,
and just try to contribute in other ways.
