I am not at all convinced that mothers are, in any great numbers, being confronted with breastfeeding support that is “mean.” Certainly, there is nothing “mean” about material produced by any major breastfeeding advocacy organization. Are there chat lists on which there are rude comments made? Of course, and this is 1. Not exclusive to breastfeeding, and 2. Unverified as to who is actually writing the comments. We are naïve if we don’t believe that the major formula corporations don’t see it to their advantage to make sure these rude conversations continue. They pay people to write! This should not be news to anyone using social media.

Many of us remember before the internet, that the Wall Street Journal produced a hit piece on breastfeed “Dying For Milk” timed, not surprisingly, to coincide with World Breastfeeding Week.

In a way, I think this Similac video has opened the door to shed more light on what the industry is up to- it’s called Divide and Conquer.

Heaven forbid if women stopped fighting with each other and looked more closely at the ways they have been manipulated.
